How to Find a Good Graphic Designer in Any Town.
Even though there are lots of graphic design programs available, I'm such a klutz with graphics that I'm best off to find a professional designer.
For a small business, top-of-the-line designers can be a bit pricey. It's nothing for an established graphics professional to charge $1000 or more for a logo.
Still, you have lots of lower priced options. I've gotten excellent work from art students at local colleges, trade schools, and even at high schools. One local high school has an exceptionally good graphics department and turned out first rate bumper stickers for an ad campaign I worked on.
Check with advertising agencies in your area. Most have designers on staff who moonlight on small projects. Designers tend to hang out together, so ask if they know someone who does good work at low prices.
Many pros who have always done graphics for print publications are getting into web site graphics. I know one New York City designer whose work is seen in national magazines who charges $200 or $300 for some of the best web site logos on the Net.
Keep in mind many designers charge by the hour. A more experienced designer may have a higher hourly rate, but they can usually finish your project faster.
